The K&F Summer BBQ - boat race!

Hello, Scott here. How is everyone?

Well, I think it's safe to say that summer is well and truly upon us! And summer means only one thing here at K&F, and that's the annual K&F Summer BBQ! This year we are trying something a little different from previous years. Of course, we will have great food as always, but this time there won't be any sandcastle making competition. Instead, teams will be battling it out to design and race their very own speed boats!

Teams will be given some basic materials - pet bottles, a styrofoam board, tape - and any items they bring along with them. They will then have an hour to design the boats in their teams. Teams will be awarded points for design, teamwork and originality. Then comes the main event, the race! One team member will be chosen to pull the boat from the beach to the jetty. Teams will then receive points depending on where they finish. All points will then be added together and an overall winner decided. But be warned, if things fall off the boat while racing, teams will lose points!

All sounds very exciting, right? Well make sure you don't miss it and get yourselves down to Matoba beach on July 6th from 11:00am.

毎日少しづつ暑くなっていき、夏本番も間近ですね！Ｋ＆Ｆでの夏といえば、毎年恒例のイベント、BBQがあります。今年もおいしいハンバーガーとホットドッグを準備していますのでお楽しみに！今回のBBQでは、今までの砂のお城作りとは少し気分を変えて、ボートレースを企画しています。今回はボートレースについて少し説明させてください。

各チームには、ボートの基本的な材料となるペットボトル、スチロール製の板、テープが用意されます。そこに各自で持ち寄っていただくシールやおもちゃ等で世界にたった一つのオリジナルボートを作っていただきます。各チームのデザインや、チームワークなども採点の基準となりますよ！出来上がったボートは各チーム代表者が堤防から引っ張って競争します。レース結果も得点に加算されますが、途中でボートの飾りが取れてしまったら減点されてしまいます。

英語で名前が書けるよ～！

幼稚園児さんのクラスで、しっかりアルファベットで自分の名前を書けるようになった姿を披露してくれました。
「何も見ずに書けたよ～！」と、嬉しいですね♪♪♪
ネイティブ講師の英語に触れているので、発音もとっても綺麗！
 
小学校での英語の教科化を目指す動きが、日本で出てきていますね。これは、「教科書と成績評価」が導入されてくるということです。「まだまだ英語を始めるのは先で良い。」と言ってられない時代になってきました。

My first time in Okinawa!

Hi everyone,

I went to Ishigaki, Iriomote, and Taketomi islands for my Golden Week.  It was my first time visiting Okinawa prefecture, and I had a great time!  I was able to go kayaking, snorkeling, and I even was able to make my own Shi-sa.

Shi-sas are kind of like lions.  They are popular in Okinawa, and they often are placed on the roofs of houses. They are believed to keep the people inside the house safe.  More recently, people have begun to place them inside of their houses as works of art.  I was lucky enough to go to a real pottery studio and make my own.  It was fun, but it took four hours!  I will have to wait a month until it is ready to be shipped to me here.  Here are some pictures of it:

運動会！

昨日はお天気にも恵まれ、竹原ではほとんどの小学校で運動会が無事に終わりました。団体競技・演技、リレーなど、生徒の皆さん、練習の成果をしっかりと見せて下さいましたね！

ご家族の皆さんもお疲れ様でした。

また来年も、ひと回り大きく成長される姿を見せて頂けるのを楽しみにしています♪♪♪

　　

月見幼稚園体験レッスン！！！

梅雨を通り越して夏になってしまったように暑い日が続きますね！

さて、今日は月見幼稚園での無料体験レッスンの日でした☆
今日は４人の元気な女の子たちが参加してくれました！

みんな初めてとは思えない程大きな声で楽しそうにレッスンを受けてくださいましたよ～♪

来週からみんな一緒に今年度のレッスンをスタートできるのがと～っても楽しみです！

ガーデニング♪

日中は動くと汗ばむようになりましたね。夏がもう目の前に来てるんだ～と実感します。そんな中で、運動会の練習で頑張っている小学生の皆さん～、体調を崩さずに本番まで頑張って下さいね！

さて、生徒さんが玄関先の花を植え替えをして下さいました！どの色も綺麗に咲いてくれています！この花に迎えられ、一日をスタートするのが楽しいです♪　

最近、はまっているのが、ガーデニングです！（ステキなガーデンを目指して奮闘中）ただ、初心者で・・・いつも水遣りを頑張り過ぎてしまうようで・・・　（＞＜）　どなたかガーデニングに詳しい方、花を元気に育てるコツを教えて下さい～！

Presentation about the U.K.

Hello,

I hope everyone is doing well and making the most of the nice weather we have been having recently.

Last Saturday I went to give a speech at Hongo Shougai Gakushuu Centre for the Hongou International Relations Group about my country, the U.K. I was a little nervous at first (I’ve never given a speech in Japanese before!), but I had a great time.

I spoke about many different things relating to the U.K., such as the food, sports and popular drinks. However, what I think people found most interesting, were the things that surprised me when I first came to Japan. For example, the number of vending machines in Japan compared to the U.K., there are so many here! Also, customer service is so amazing in Japan compared to back home. Another big difference is the food. The food in Japan is so much more delicious then in the U.K., not to mention much cheaper!

Anyway, I hope everyone enjoyed my presentation as much as I enjoyed presenting it!

I’d like to thank everyone at the Hongo International Relations Group for inviting me to speak. I and my family met so many wonderful people and had such a wonderful time.

皆さん、いい天気を楽しんでいますか？


先週の土曜日、本郷生涯学習センターへ行きました。本郷国際交流協会の皆さんの前で、私の国イギリスについてのスピーチをしてきました。日本語でのスピーチは初めてだったので、最初は少し緊張しましたが、楽しかったです。

食べ物のこと、スポーツのこと、ドリンクのことなど、イギリスでのいろいろな事を話しましたが。皆さんがいちばん興味を持ったのは、「私が日本へ来て驚いたこと」のようでした。


例えば、日本にはたくさんの自動販売機があります。

また、カスタマーサービスが日本は素晴らしいです。食べ物も日本は美味しくて、イギリスに比べて安いです。

皆さんが私のスピーチを楽しんでくれたらいいな。

本郷国際交流協会の皆さん、スピーチの機会を与えてくださってありがとうございました。素晴らしい人たちと出会えて、私も家族も楽しかったです。
