Onomichi Out & About
Hello everyone,
we've been really lucky with the weather in Hiroshima recently, haven't we!
A while ago, on one of those mild and sunny autumn days, I set out to explore one of Mihara's closest neighbours, just a train-hop away: Onomichi. For most travellers from outside of Japan, Onomichi isn't a name you would find on your typical travel itinerary. As I learned recently, it is actually a pretty popular destination among domestic tourists, though--and for good reason!
A labyrinth of narrow, winded roads, some quite excentric architecture, and numerous temples and shrines nestled along the hills make for a unique and athmospheric scenery. It's always a pleasure to just follow that small passage, turn that next corner left and happen upon interesting and fascinating things along the way.

三原校ハロウィーンパーティ
昨日からハロウィーンパーティ始まっています♪
今年はコスチュームコンテストはありませんが、
プリンセスやカエル、ウォーリー、アイアンマン、カウボーイなど…
皆さんどれも素敵な衣装で似合っていましたよ！
皆で楽しいゲームをしたり、ハロウィーン恒例のTrick or Treatでキャンディをたくさんもらって帰りました！
これから１週間のハロウィーンパーティ、スタッフも楽しみです！

ハロウィンパーティーが始まりました！私達も大好きなイベントのひとつです！
パーティー初日は、ディズニープリンセスのオーロラ姫、リトルマーメイド、ティンカーベルがいましたよ～！男の子は、船長、ミッキーマウス、ドラキュラなどカッコイイコスチュームを着て来てくれました！ゲームも楽しくて、最後はTrick or treatで沢山キャンディーをもらえて大盛り上がりです♪♪
保護者の皆さん、コスチュームの準備、持ち物の準備、パーティーのお手伝い、有り難うございました～！
1週間、毎日がハロウィンです！！イエイ！！

Sake Matsuri
Last weekend I went to the Sake Matsuri in Saijo for the first time. I must confess, I’m not the biggest drinker of Japanese Sake, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of the festival and trying out some of the different tipples on offer – I didn’t realize there was such variety! I wasn’t able to sample that many, but of the ones I did, I was surprised by the noticeable differences in taste and textures. After 8 years in Japan, it may be time for me to finally buy my first bottle!

小梨町で稲刈り体験！
実りの秋、収穫の秋ですね。土曜日に小梨町の稲刈りにお邪魔してきました！
毎年、数種類の米を植え、水田画を描くのが恒例になっているそうで、今年は５種類を使っての巨大ドラえもんが待ってくれていました～！
初体験の稲刈りは、予想以上の体力仕事でしたが良い汗をかいて、皆さんとお話しができ、とても楽しいひとときを過ごす事ができました。お声がけを下さった皆さん、当日、色々と指導下さった皆さん、有り難うございました。春には田植えもお邪魔したいです。そして、花見ハイキングも楽しみです！
あちこち筋肉痛ですが、今日も元気に張り切ってレッスンしますよ～～！！！

三原校はもうハロウィンの準備ばっちりです☆
みんなが今年はどんな素敵なコスチュームでパーティーに参加してくれるのかとっても楽しみだね～！！と話ながら飾りつけをしました♪

Visiting Takehara
Hello there,
last weekend Valerie and I visited Takehara's beautiful historic district for an interesting little festival. Men put on demon masks and people bring their children for them to scare and make them cry for health and good luck in the future. Apparently crying is healthy! It was very effective with some of the little ones, as you can see in the pictures. A few of the older boys made me think of my nephew who, at nearly 6, is probably too old already to get scared by something like that, even though It feels like he was a new-born just yesterday. They grow up so fast. Time really does fly, doesn't it!
After the festival, we went over to Horita-san's house. She is a calligraphy teacher we got to know by pure chance a few weeks ago. An incredibly kind and generous person, she even gave us a quick calligraphy lesson this time around. Calligraphy is so fascinating to me, it really helps calming you down and puts things into perspective. I'm grateful for the many beautfiful experiences here.

アドベンチャーキャンプ！
朝晩が冷え込んでもうすっかり秋ですね。
みなさん風邪など引かずに元気に過ごしていますか？
さて、Ｋ＆Ｆでは９月１２日、１３日に恐羅漢エコロジーキャンプ場にキャンプに行ってきました！
少し天気は不安定でしたが、参加してくれた子供たちみんながとっても楽しそうで私達スタッフもとっても嬉しかったです♪
キャンプ１日目はジップラインにみんなで挑戦しました！とっても陽気なインストラクターさんと一緒にみんな怖がることもなく楽しんでいました☆
夜はＢＢＱ、英語のレッスンと盛りだくさん！
２日目はピザ作りをしました♪
たったの２日間でしたがみんなとゆっくり過ごせて私もとっても楽しかったです！
普段会えない竹原校の子供たちの成長した姿も見れて元気をもらいました☆
さて、もうハロウィンパーティーまであと１ヶ月ですね！Ｋ＆Ｆは年末までイベント盛りだくさんです！
今年も後３ヶ月ちょっと！残りもしっかり楽しみましょうね～♪

Obon in Colorado!
Hello,
One of my good friends had his wedding on the 16th of August. For a long time I was planning on going home for the wedding to surprise my friend. Unfortunately, the plane tickets were extremely expensive 1-2 months in advance. As time crept closer, I decided to change my plans and head to Nagano where wanted to do some hiking in the Alps. I was really excited to explore this wild region of Japan!
Three days before I was expecting to leave for Nagano, I decided to check the internet for ticket prices one last time. Incredibly the ticket had dropped $400! I immediately booked the flight and was on the plane two days later.
I flew into Denver Colorado. This is a beautiful city known as the "Mile High City." My good friend picked me up and we drove to Boulder where I stayed for the next four days. I went rock climbing, hiking and swimming. It was so amazing!
Next we drove down to Durango where the wedding was to be held on Sunday. While there I went to National park called Mesa Verde. This place was inhabited by the Pueblo natives 800 years ago. What an amazing time. Oh yeah!! The wedding was pretty cool too:)

Shimane Obon Trip
During the Obon break, I went to Shimane
with my family. We went to the aquarium, Aquas, and spent some time on the
beach. My son was very excited about seeing all the different sea creatures. He
particularly enjoyed the beluga whale show. It was my first time to swim
in the Japanese sea - I was really surprised by how clear the water was!
