Winter in Canada

While I'm enjoying the mild winter in Mihara there are some things I miss back home around this time. There are no snow days here! In Canada, each winter schools and work will be cancelled for a few days because of weather. Everybody plays in the snow and keeps cosy - it's really fun!

三原での冬を楽しんでいるところですが、この時期になるといくつか母国カナダが恋しいなと思うことがあり、そのひとつが雪です。こちらでは雪はめったに降りませんが、カナダでは学校や会社が数日間休みになるほどたくさん雪が降ります。そんな日はみんな外へ出て、めいっぱい雪を楽しみます。

Last winter there was an ice storm that froze everything overnight. It was really beautiful but unfortunately caused long power outs and lots of damage. 

昨年の冬は氷嵐が起こり、一夜にして道や屋根、木などすべてのものが氷で覆われました。その光景はものすごく美しかったのですが、地域一帯はしばらく停電になるなどさまざまな被害をもたらしました。

 These last three are from Ottawa, the capital city, where I went to university. Average temperatures in the winter reach -20. There's a winter festival called Winterlude where you can do all kinds of winter activities.
最後の３枚の写真はオタワのものです。カナダの首都で、私が通っていた大学もオタワにありました。冬の平均気温はマイナス２０度にもなります。また、ウィンタールードという名前の大きなお祭りが開催され、雪や氷のアクティビティーを楽しむことが出来ます。
